My sister was the peanut butter pie maker in my house back in the day. Her peanut butter pies not only won her a ribbon at a 4-H competition, but they were frequently requested by family and friends.
The easiest version of peanut butter pie she made was a frozen peanut butter pie. It may have been easy, but it was also really tasty and really rich.
I decided to make frozen peanut butter pie to take to a dinner to honor a group of volunteers. Although it is great plain, bite size Nutter Butter cookies made a great decorative topping and made for a great guide for dividing the pie into servings. Want your pie to have more crunch? Top with chopped peanuts. If you like chocolate with your peanut butter, chocolate syrup in a squeeze bottle also makes a tasty decoration. If you like the idea of creating a decorative pattern with a squeeze bottle but just want peanut butter flavor, Amish peanut butter spread may be what you’d prefer. If you want to go crazy, use all them! There are additional topping ideas in the recipe below.
Frozen Peanut Butter Pie
Ingredients
- 4 oz. cream cheese
- 1 c. confectioner's sugar
- 1 c. creamy peanut butter
- 1/2 c. milk
- 8 oz. Cool Whip, thawed
- 1 graham cracker crust
Instructions
- Beat to cream cheese, sugar, and peanut butter with a mixer until they are well combined.
- Fold in thawed Cool Whip.
- Pour into prepared pie crust.
- Add toppings, if desired.*
- Place in freezer for at least an hour before serving.
Notes
* If topping with cookies or chopped peanuts, adding them before freezing helps them stay in place when serving. If topping with chocolate, peanut butter or honey, toppings can be added before or after freezing.
Topping ideas: Nutter Butter cookies, chocolate syrup, Amish peanut butter spread, honey, chopped peanuts, mini/small peanut butter cups
This pie filling is the perfect amount for a store-bought prepared graham cracker crust. It also fits a regular (not deep dish) 9-inch homemade pie crust very well.
The crust does not have to be graham cracker. Peanut butter filled cookies and chocolate filled cookies also make a great crust for this pie.
** This pie is seriously rich. Small serving sizes strongly suggested.
