Food I Can Not Find in the South

When I moved from “Up North,” I knew things would be different in the South. I was not surprised to find more sweet tea, bbq, black-eyed peas and all sorts of greens. I am surprised at what I can not find.

I can not find Coco Wheats. Yes, that hot cereal is no where to be found in my area. I was shocked. My daughter loves them. We have to buy it in the “North” and bring it back or have family bring it when they visit.

I was not very surprised to find that one of my favorite hot cereals, Ralstons, is no where to be found either. I had trouble finding it where I lived in the “North” as well. I buy them when I am in the “North” or have family bring them as well.

I can only find one brand of frozen bread dough or rolls and it is not very good. No, I am not talking about the pre-baked rolls that you basically just heat up; we have those. I am not talking about frozen biscuit dough either; we have lots of it available. I am talking about the kind where you let the raw dough rise and can do other things with it like make pepperoni rolls. I rarely buy it. I do buy the frozen, pre-baked rolls. They taste good, but are not as flexible.

Frozen home-style noodles can be found, but only on a very rare occasion. Frozen dumplings are plentiful. I resigned to just always making my own.

There are many other food items I can not locate in my area that used to be common place “Up North,” but I doubt you want the complete list.

Sure, there are many items in the South I rarely, if ever, saw in the “North,” but that is for another day.

I have to go; my grits are ready eat.
