Alas, this is the final recipe I am sharing as a result of one weekend camping trip this summer. It is another dutch oven friendly dessert…peach cobbler.
This super easy version of peach cobbler is can be made with just a few ingredients making it great for camping or a simple dessert at home.
Recipe: Easy Peach Cobbler
Ingredients:
2 – 24 oz. jars of slice peaches or 2 – 28 oz. cans sliced peaches
1/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
cinnamon, to taste
1 box yellow or white cake mix
1/2 c. butter, cut into 1/2 or 1/4 tsp. size pieces
**peach or lemon-lime soda pop, optional**
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease or spray a 9 X 13 inch baking dish.
Drain 1/4 c.of the syrup from one of the containers of peaches. Reserve syrup if not using soda pop.
Add both containers of peaches and their remaining syrup to the baking dish.
Add brown sugar and cinnamon to the peaches, mixing until they are evenly distributed throughout the peaches.
Sprinkle entire box of cake mix evenly over peach mixture.
Cover cake mix with butter pieces.
Place in oven to bake until butter melts.
**Once butter is melted, you can pour a small amount of the soda pop over cake mix not covered by butter melting or use the reserved syrup instead.
Bake until done; top is browned and peach syrup has thickened. About 40 to 45 minutes.
Great when served warm with ice cream, Cool Whip, whipped cream, milk or just plain 🙂
Variations:
You need the liquid from the canned fruit to moisten the cake mix. DO NOT USE FRESH FRUIT OF FRUIT FILLING WITHOUT MAKING ADJUSTMENTS TO THE RECIPE.
Other fruits like pears or pineapple can be used instead of peaches.
FOR DUTCH OVEN PREPARATION:
1. Line dutch oven with foil and grease with butter, spray, or shortening. Follow steps 3-7 above, add extra butter, soda pop or reserve peach syrup before placing lid on oven. Place Dutch Oven with on a bed of approx. 8 coals and place bout 18 coals on top of lid and let cook about 45 minutes or until done.
