I am just going to say it: Homemade salad dressing is so much better than the bottled stuff that I would make it even if it did cost more…and sometimes it does when there is a sale and coupons that make the bottled stuff almost free.
When you make it yourself, you have more control over what ingredients go in the dressing compared to when you just buy a bottle of dressing. You can adapt it to your specific tastes and types and amount of ingredients.
French dressing has been a favorite of mine since childhood. I like both the creamy and non-creamy versions. This recipe just happens to be creamy.
Creamy French Dressing
Ingredients
- 1 c. sugar
- 1 c. ketchup
- 1/3 c. cider or rice vinegar
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. white pepper
- 1 tsp. dry mustand
- 1 Tbsp. minced onion
- 2 c. salad dressing
- dash of Worcestershire sauce
- dash of paprika
- 1/3 c. canola or similar oil
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients, except the oil, in a blender.
- Start blending the ingredients, then slowly add the oil through the blender lid opening.
- Continue blending the dressing until all of the ingredients make a smooth, homogeneous mixture.
- Store in a non-reactive container, like a jar or bottle, in the refrigerator.
- Makes about 1 quart.
