Basic Buttercream Frosting paula 12 years ago This frosting is a simple classic. it is easy to spread for a “crumb coating,” a filling between layers, and to frost an entire cake. Recipe: Basic Buttercream Frosting Ingredients 1/2 c. soft (room temp) unsalted butter 3 1/2 c. sifted confectioners’ sugar 1/8 tsp. salt 3 – 4 Tbsp. milk, half and half or light cream 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract* Instuctions Beat butter, salt, and sugar on medium with the beater attachment in a stand mixer or in an electric mixer. Add vanilla extract and 2 Tbsp. milk/cream. Continue to beat adding milk/cream a tablespoon at a time until desired consistency is reached. Frosting should be smooth and fluffy.
