&Pizza was on my list of places I wanted to try when we visited Washington, D.C. I did not really make an actual plan to go there though. Although I always have used a combination of the Metro and walking to get around D.C., this trip I actually paid (if you know me you know that I am frugal) for us to tour on a hop on/hop off trolley. It just happened that we arrived at the trolley’s “welcome center” stop at 11:00 a.m. and had almost a half an hour until the trolley we were going on left. We thought briefly about going back to Lincoln’s Waffle shop just a few businesses up the street from the welcome center. However, the trolley’s center is on a corner and our trolley was going to leave from the other street, so we noticed an &Pizza located right next door to the “Welcome Center” so we decided to give it a try.
It was very good and very fast as we were able to stand in a fairly short line, pick our pizza crust and toppings, watch it go through the oven via a conveyor, add more toppings, pay for it, find a table, get drinks, eat, and still make our trolley.
My daughter and I really liked the pizza. Organic dough, non-GMO toppings, and no added hormone cheese indicates a concern for their product that I believe is evident in the final product. I will admit that I enjoyed my daughter’s cheese only pizza more than my bacon and mushroom pizza. It was mostly that I regretted not selecting spinach, which almost everyone else in line did select, before I even took a bite. The other issue I had was they were much more generous with the bacon than I had anticipated….I know THAT really a problem.
A note about the photos: we started eating before I remembered to take any…oops!
We also really liked their soda. You will not find any Coke or Pepsi here. They only carry house-made sodas (or tea). My daughter’s soda was the only real problem we encountered. Her black cherry cola was a light pink color and tasted almost solely like carbonated water. I believe they were just running low on syrup in the machine, but it was too busy to inform anyone working there. We ended up sharing my burdock and anise root beer, which was excellent, and just refilling my cup.
I would definitely go back to this location or try one of the other locations. They have more than a dozen locations in the DC metro area and a single location in both Baltimore and Philadelphia. worth a visit if you are near one.
